Watercolour Explorers
Colour, water and patience, for ages 8–12
Eight weeks of washes, blooms and experiments with water. Children finish with a small painted series rather than a single crowded page.
About this class
Watercolour punishes hurry, which is exactly why children need it.
We start with one brush, one colour and a lot of water — learning to put the water down first and let the colour find its own way. Slowly, and without ever calling it technique, the class learns washes, wet-on-wet, salt, lifting and edges.
Each child works on a small series of studies rather than one big picture, so there is always something to look at, and something to be proud of by the end of the hour.
What to bring: nothing. All paper, paint and brushes are provided.
