Animation & Storyboarding Lab
For teenagers who want to make films
Ten weeks on visual storytelling: how a shot works, how to board a scene before animating it, and how to be in the room where an animation is made.
About this class
Animation is a way of thinking before it is a way of drawing. This lab spends most of its time on that thinking.
We board scenes, break a story into shots, argue about where a cut belongs, and learn to draw only what the shot needs — which is usually not what you first wanted to draw. There is screen time, but it comes after the paper work, not before it.
Students leave with a boarded sequence of their own and a short film they made from it.
What to bring: a laptop or tablet if you have one, and a sketchbook.
